El Caletón is one of the most popular natural pool complexes and a must-see in Garachico. In fact, it is a grouping of pools that emerged after the eruption of the Arenas Negras volcano in 1706, with highlights including Las Viejas, Los Niños, and Los Chorros. Additionally, this place has been recognized as a Tourist Interest Point on the island.
These pools offer services such as lifeguards, stairs to access the sea, changing rooms equipped with showers, and a beach bar that offers drinks and snacks, allowing you to enjoy El Caletón with complete safety and comfort.
If you are traveling with family, it is important to remember that although the waters in the north of Tenerife are usually calm, you should always pay attention to the flag color and the strength with which the waves hit the lava barrier.

Charco del Viento, a very popular natural pool in Tenerife
The Charco del Viento is another of the island’s most renowned natural spots. It is located in La Guancha, a small town in the north of Tenerife, near Icod de los Vinos.
Considered one of the largest pools on the island, this spot is not completely enclosed; however, its two prominent lava arms are enough to shield the bathing area from strong waves and currents.
The clarity and tranquility of its waters make it an ideal site for snorkeling, and it is a must-stop in the north of Tenerife. The access is simple, as it is located in the Santa Catalina neighborhood of La Guancha and is easily reached by following the well-signposted TF-351 road. In addition, nearby you can find other charming natural pools, such as Charco Verde and Charco de La Arena, although the latter require a short walk which reduces the number of bathers.
Los Chochos, one of the best-known pools in Tenerife
Los Chochos is another unmissable natural spot in the north of Tenerife. It is located in Los Silos, next to Charco de La Araña, which will be discussed later.
This natural pool stands out not only for the striking contrast between the blue sea and the black volcanic rock, but also for the views it offers of the La Culata cliffs and Teide on clear days. With a maximum depth of approximately two meters, its crystal-clear waters are generally calm, although sometimes high tide can agitate the surface. Additionally, it features a staircase that facilitates access.
Although it is one of the best natural pools on the island, its small size and high popularity during certain periods can make it somewhat crowded. Access is very straightforward: simply leave the historic center of Los Silos and take the Puertito road.
Piscinas de Bajamar, one of the natural pools in North Tenerife
The Natural Pools of Bajamar are an unmissable visual attraction in the coastal town of Bajamar, within the municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
This area is composed of three pools adjacent to a small beach, one of which is especially suitable for children due to its size and shallow depth. It is a perfect spot for a family outing, always paying attention to the safety flag, and it is staffed with lifeguards, changing rooms with showers, and toilets. Furthermore, nearby you can find cafes, restaurants, and shops. During a visit to San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the proximity of these pools allowed us to combine both destinations.
Los Abrigos, a very beautiful natural pool in Tenerife
Los Abrigos, also known as Freshwater Pools, are located in Granadilla de Abona, in the south of the island. These natural pools have earned a special place thanks to the rugged and wild landscape that surrounds them, although they have small steps that make access to the bathing area easier.
Although each individual pool is not very large, the existence of several allows you to choose a quiet spot with a certain degree of privacy. Being surrounded by rocks, they are protected from strong winds, although on days with rough seas it is important to take extra precautions, especially when traveling with children.
To reach these pools, you must take the road that connects La Tejita with Los Abrigos and, just before reaching the latter, follow a dirt path. I recommend taking the opportunity to visit other attractions in the south, such as El Médano or the Montaña Roja.
La Jaquita, a Tenerife pool that is easily accessible
La Jaquita is located in Guía de Isora, specifically in the coastal town of Alcalá, making it another highly recommended option in the south of Tenerife.
The volcanic rock that forms this natural pool acts as a breakwater, preventing currents from dragging bathers away, while in the open areas additional bars have been installed to reinforce safety. In addition, there are stairs that facilitate access, allowing anyone to enjoy its waters.
It also has lifeguards, although it is always important to be extra cautious on days of high tide or rough seas. Access is simple, as it is located next to the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora hotel, recognized as one of the best hotels in Tenerife, in an area surrounded by restaurants, parks, and other leisure options.
Charco de La Virgen, one of the most paradisiacal pools in Tenerife
Charco de La Virgen, also known as Charco La Viuda, is another of those enchanting spots in Tenerife. Located in La Jaca, Arico, this small and discreet pond is highly appreciated by both locals and visitors, even being nicknamed “natural jacuzzi” due to the effect created by the waves and its unique shape.
It is, without a doubt, one of the southern Tenerife spots worth visiting, as the number of tourists is usually minimal and you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. It is located a short distance from El Muellito beach, in the same fishing village of La Jaca. If you are looking for privacy, this pool is ideal, as its secluded location keeps it almost deserted. To get there, head to the El Rayo area and then take a dirt road towards the Buenavista lighthouse; about 400 meters away, you will find this excellent natural pool.

The Jover natural pool is located in the town of Tejina, close to the Anaga Rural Park. Although it is not one of the most crowded pools among tourists, at certain times you may find a few bathers, especially among locals. It is important to note that, although its waters are usually calm, during episodes of intense waves the atmosphere can change.
This pool features an access ramp, which facilitates swimming for people with reduced mobility. Unlike others, its bottom is coated with cement, showing human intervention to improve comfort without losing its volcanic origin. It is an ideal spot to cool off in the north of Tenerife, offering a calm and family-friendly environment, surrounded by pristine and wild landscapes. Access is simple: just head to the Cocal distillery in Tejina and follow the road until you reach the pool.
Charco de Isla Cangrejo, a pool in Los Gigantes, Tenerife, where you can swim
Charco de Isla Cangrejo is located in Santiago del Teide, in the urbanization of the same name. An imposing concrete wall surrounds the pool, helping to keep the bathing area calm and shielded from the waves. However, on days of high tide or rough seas, caution must be exercised, especially when traveling with children, as there are some deeper areas.
This pool is highly appreciated for its serene atmosphere and low number of visitors. Its proximity to the Los Gigantes Cliffs allows you to enjoy spectacular views, although it is advisable to wear water shoes, since the bottom is composed of rock and stone. Additionally, it has a sunbathing area, perfect for relaxing among the rocks and enjoying the scenery.
Charco de Golete, another natural pool in Tenerife you should visit
Charco de Golete is located in Güimar, in the eastern part of the island, a region less crowded by tourism and frequented mainly by locals seeking a respite. Although the pool was naturally formed, stairs have been added to facilitate access. Usually, the currents and waves are gentle, allowing for a relaxed and safe swim.
Its location is another of its great attractions, as it is situated in an ideal area for hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities. To get there, head to the municipality of Güimar, take the detour towards Punta Prieta and La Coleta, cross a bridge, and follow the signs directing you to Golete.
Cueva de la Vaca, another spectacular pool in Tenerife
Cueva de la Vaca is undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural pools in Tenerife. Located in Santiago del Teide, next to La Arena beach, this spot surprises by being set within a rock formation that creates a sort of natural cave. Although it is not one of the most well-known “Charcos“, its intimate and unique atmosphere makes it special.
The day we visited, the sea was calm, allowing for worry-free enjoyment; however, on windy days it is important to be cautious, as the absence of stairs can make the access slippery. To reach it, I recommend heading to La Arena beach, as it is located right next to it.
Charco de La Araña, a pool in Tenerife that appears and disappears
Charco de La Araña is located in Los Silos, very close to Los Chochos. This curious pond only appears during low tide, disappearing when the tide rises. Its always-crystal-clear waters make it an excellent spot for snorkeling. Additionally, from the pool you can appreciate the La Culata cliffs, making the visit an unforgettable experience.
The area also offers services such as lifeguards, changing rooms with showers, and toilets, and is close to restaurants and shops. During the stroll, you can even observe the natural skeleton of a northern right whale, a breathtaking sight. It is worth noting that, being one of the most popular natural pools, the number of bathers is usually high.
Mesa del Mar, another well-known pool in Tenerife
Finally, the Mesa del Mar natural pool is located on the Costa de Tacoronte, in the town of the same name, and is part of the Protected Landscape Area of Costa Acentejo. This spot is very tranquil, frequented mostly by locals and some tourists, and is perfect for enjoying a family swim.
It features stairs for accessing the water and a wooden platform to sit and sunbathe while admiring the spectacular views of Teide. The only detail to consider is that the access road has numerous curves and descends along the mountainside, but the effort is well worth it to discover one of the best natural pools in Tenerife and enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities.
